Achanté a.k.a. Chantelle Menezes is a Toronto/Mumbai based singer-songwriter, vocal producer and multi-instrumentalist who uses music as a medium of diasporic storytelling. Not one to let genre dictate things, she proudly claims and expresses a complex layer of identities through art forms such as music performance, dance, fashion, photography and the spoken word. Her memorable sound (kind of like Erykah Badu meets Alicia Keys) comes from a diverse upbringing - from 70s funk, jazz and broadway in her childhood to gospel, hip hop, opera and Carnatic fusion in her adolescence, and she combines these to create unique soundscapes. Her debut single and music video ‘The One Who Got Away’ (2022) and most recent release ‘Serotonin Skies’ (2023) were featured in Rolling Stone Magazine and she is now working on recording and releasing her debut E.P. The artist has Indian roots and has lent her vocal chops to the indie as well as Bollywood scene in Mumbai, collaborating and sharing the stage with Oscar Winner, A.R. Rahman, Shalmali Kholgade, Sickflip and MTV Coke Studio, to name a few. Since relocating to Toronto in 2019, she has already amassed a growing local fan base headlining legendary venues and shows like Lee’s Palace, Sofar Sessions, Breaking Sound Canada, DesiFest, OBJX, Clinton’s, Harbourfront and Aga Khan Museum and played 40 live shows in 2022 alone. She describes herself as free spirited, and a bit of a love junkie who's hopelessly hopeful about the world and the people she crosses paths with.
