About Artemis Montague

Artemis Montague (they/them) is a Black mixed, chronically ill, and queer Producer, Musical Theatre Writer, and Public Intellectual concerned with intersectional leftist-feminist sociological explorations of life, philosophy politics, and accountable spaces via the performing arts. Having received an undergraduate degree in Women and Gender Studies (with coursework in African Black Diaspora Studies, Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, and Sociology), their music concerns love, life, relationships, and mortality as well as the mental health industrial complex; the struggle to survive late-stage capitalism vs. making truthful art; and the revolutionary nature of radical self-love and community building. They were going to pursue a PHD in Medical Sociology and a Human Rights Law degree in order to eventually join the UN, but they instead wrote the first draft of their first musical, She Sings Me Home, in 2017. They now have 2 more Black-, trans-, and queer-led rock/R&B/gospel musicals: How Baby and the Ancestors Started a Revolution and Rhapsody in Sunflower Yellow. Montague’s debut Joe’s Pub concert, called PLAYLIST FOR THE LIBERATED SOUL, was in July 2026 and showcased their independent music as well as music from their 3 musicals. They have over 200 yet-unreleased songs, with some that they have released being funded by an AudioFemme Agenda Grant iin 2023 - “could you (I’m yours)” and “gets none”.
