About Charley Strachan

MA Music and Management Graduate - University of Leeds I'm looking to develop my skills across the music industry to help support emerging artists. Most recently, I started working in music PR alongside my current job in ticketing. Prior to that, I gained experience in events such as Marshall Amplifications' first festival, Marshall Live 2019. In 2017, I managed Oxjam Leeds Festival which was a one day, indoor festival across five stages. All proceeds went to Oxfam and the aim was to champion local grassroots artists and independent venues. In between my work and studies, I have written for Leys News and Not So Popular magazine.

Charley's Experience

Iman Lake 2020: I have recently started working for an R&B/hip hop artist. This has involved networking and consultancy across marketing campaigns. Primarily, this role involves writing and editing copy, as well as email administration and ensuring socials are updated. Marshall Live 2019: I worked in a team to create a student-focussed marketing campaign. This involved working with a variety of stakeholders and communicating through video chats, email and in-person. On the day of the festival, I ran artist accreditation and VIP collections which included great customer service. Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2019: I worked on a month-long plan in March 2019 raising £3000 for an Edinburgh Fringe show. I ran gigs in Leeds at the university and across the city, and collaborated on advertising strategies using posters and offering song dedications to those donating. As musical director, I arranged the music for marketing content and the show itself. ICCA 2019: As musical director, I led The Songsmiths to place third in the UK at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella 2019. This is the best the group have ever placed. Having been elected to committee for three years running, I was able to use my experience to create an interesting set with music including Imogen Heap’s ‘The Listening Chair’, a mash up of Dua Lipa’s ‘Be The One’ and Avicii’s ‘I Could Be (The One)’, Billie Eilish’s ‘When The Party’s Over’ and Beyoncé’s ‘End of Time’. Oxjam 2017: Oxjam is a grassroots multi-venue festival raising money for Oxfam. As manager for Oxjam Leeds Festival 2017, tasks included booking venues and acts, marketing, and representing Leeds at national conferences. I recruited volunteers for each stage so all venues ran smoothly. In conducting market research, I ensured the festival ran across multiple genres to appeal to an eclectic demographic.
