About Clare Kelly

Clare Kelly is an artist from Leeds (UK), currently based in South East London. Growing up listening songwriters like Springsteen, Stevie Nicks and Fiona Apple, I write in an honest and emotive way. Having spent a considerable amount of time travelling and performing overseas, my songs are stories taken from my own experiences and people who have touched my life. For as long as I can recall, I have been inspired by the ocean and aquatic creatures and so I am creating 'Mer-Folk' music often recording with my all female band who I refer to as the Mermaids. I am primarily a singer and also play guitar and piano. I am currently developing my production skills. I also work in music publishing, having spent three years in copyright and now managing Universal's song library for sync, in the creative film & tv team. Filling as much music into my life time as possible, I would be excited to have a mentor to guide me through balancing being an artist and working on the business side of things simultaneously.

Clare's Experience

I began having singing lessons when I was 11 and reached Grade 8 while performing in musicals and soul/rock performances at school. Fronting two boy bands, I began writing lyrics and then moved to London to study Popular Music as Goldsmiths University. I graduated with a BMus developing skills in songwriting, performance, film music and various projects. I’ve self-released various solo music projects, made music videos and embarked on an 18 month DIY tour across USA and Australia. Returning back to the UK, I combined my love of music, studies and work experience as a Legal Assistant, to join Universal Music Publishing in the Copyright department. I now have a thorough understanding of publishing and I have recently been promoted to Creative Manager in the Film & TV department. I balance my 9 to 5 with songwriting, releasing my work and performing (in normal life!).
