About Collette Mitchell

Collette A. Mitchell aka Cocoa Da Princess, is a native of Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Paseo Academy of the Fine and Performing Arts with an emphasis in creative writing. She knew writing was her passion from a very young age. Her love for writing came from writers like Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes and Tupac Shakur. She had her first poem published while still in high school. She won a scholarship for her poetry with a poem called “My Surrogate Father” on a local radio show contest Generation Rap with Grand Dad “Jim Nunnelly” on Hot 103.3 Jamz. The poem was based on her experiences growing up without her biological father in her home. That same inspiration inspired her to write and perform music. Her goal with her music and writing is to inspire others to overcome tough situations. She definitely is a survivor. She has overcome many obstacles and loves encouraging others do the same.
