Emery's Experience

I have experience in both the publishing and label sides of A&R. My first A&R internship was with NWS Music Group in London, UK. With NWS, I was actively scouting for new artists through TikTok and YouTube, and analyzing Spotify, TikTok, and Shazam charts for unsigned records that NWS could do one-off licensing deals with. I also worked quite extensively with industry programs such as Chartmetric and Soundcharts. My internship with NWS taught me quite a bit about how to conduct myself in an artist-facing role, as I was the main contact for artists and managers and often joined calls with my supervisor. My current internship is with Position Music in Burbank, CA. My primary role with Position is to support their publishing A&R team – researching up-and-coming songwriters with BMI Songview, compiling catalogs for new signings, logging split sheets, and organizing metadata for tracks on DISCO. I am also tasked with compiling the published charts for the bi-monthly A&R meeting, and I am most proud of how I have improved upon the content and format of those charts to make them more digestible for the A&R team at Position. I have earned a reputation as a quick learner and an efficient administrator and I pride myself on being organized, adaptable, and open to new opportunities. I also have an extensive background in global studies, and it is a passion of mine to maintain the cultural exchange and diversity that is centric to the music industry.
