About Etienne Smith

I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. My introduction to making music was in high school when I learned to play the piano, auditioned for my high school show choir, and began taking voice lessons. I loved it, but when it came time to go to college, I became fearful of pursuing my passions as a career, because I did not have a safety net to fall back on. It was in my third year at the University of Southern California, studying cognitive science, that I realized I was on a path that would be unfulfilling for me as it did not center on music and art. I wanted to return to feeding my creative spirit, so I began writing songs. I had loved writing poetry since I was a young child, but it wasn't until I had this realization that I married my passion for writing to my passion for music. As a songwriter, I strive to share messages about vulnerability and finding your own strength, since that is the journey that I am on myself. I also love expressing myself artistically through visual art, and so currently I work as on the creative direction team as an art director for music videos, lyric videos, and album artwork for acts such as The Naked and Famous, Two Friends, 3LAU, and Sullivan King.

Etienne's Experience

I have worked as an art director on set for the linked music videos. I ensured that shots were framed well, took care of making many props, and helped keep everyone on set organized and on schedule. In addition, I serve as part of the team reviewing video edits and album and single artwork are polished, look good, and align with the artist’s vision.
