About Jessica Munna

I started singing as a kid. I sang in school choirs, musical theatre, barbershop quartets, and a Gospel choir in NYC. I had been interested in going to drama school but turned down the opportunity to travel (my dad passed away when I was 12 and his employer, United Airlines, gave me the chance to fly anywhere in the world for free until the age of 25). I worked as an aid worker and volunteer, in arts education and outreach, as well as disaster relief in many countries and I performed at open mics and as a street musician in Southeast Asia. I started advocating for the value of music as a form of cultural exchange and as a valuable way to connect with people in challenging circumstances. I won a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship to study jazz in South Africa at the South African College of Music in Cape Town. I became the frontwoman for a psychedelic blues-rock band and gigged freelance and sang backup for a couple of other bands. I had largely negative experiences working with people who were really stifling to creativity, who took musical melodies I came up with and would gig without me using them, etc. etc. so I took some time away from songwriting for quite a while. I started teaching in Cape Town. Then, I finally went to drama school in London and graduated in 2018. I've started teaching singing again and have very recently started trying to write again and teach myself the guitar and keyboard and try to make some of my own music. I have hundreds of musical ideas that I record and take note of and I am terrible with technology and am looking for producers to work with to help me work with Ableton live to record but also looking for producers to collaborate and help me finish music.
