About Julie Mriouah

Hi, I just turned 40 and celebrating my 18th anniversary in the industry this year! I grew up and studied cinema in France, in Nancy's University in east of France. Eager to travel already, i applied to finish my master degree in Montreal in Canada and moved there once accepted. In parallel of my studies at the University of Montreal, i was lucky enough to find a job at Solotech where i started as a warehouse clerk in the video departement. After a few months in the shop i worked on my first event. There was no doubt, i was hooked and had to make it a career! I then started working on many local gigs in Montreal, from corporate gigs to festival, from concerts to conferences. I learned a lot, going through all the positions in the video departement. I was first a projectionnist, an L.E.D. tech, a camera operator and a junior cam engineer, then a video crew chief. I wanted to tour so badly i was never going to stop working hard to get there. I very much enjoyed being in charge of making a plot happen, thinking the technical aspects, troubleshooting or finding creative solutions, as well as managing teams. Once i got experienced enough, got appreciated as part of a team, and was able to obtain my canadian passport, i started touring in North america and finally world wide, as an L.E.D. tech / Camera operator for a few years. At some point, i felt like i needed to try flying on my own wings and became a freelance technician, when the main goal really was to become a touring video director. After a few gigs with different local companies, i got called to direct cameras for Bryan Adams, which i happily accepted. I got to finally do what i always wanted to. What a great feeling! I toured for him from 2018 to 2023, in many venues and parts of the world. I taught new camera staff every day/night, then taught a new permanent team, learned to work for and with an artist, learned how to gain trust and build an image. In the meantime, since i had a steady tour, i decided to move back to France to be closer to my family in 2020. In 2023, it felt like it was time for new challenges and embraced a change. I started developing the European network and toured with different UK video companies (PRG, CT, UP). In 2025, i got called to direct cameras, this time for Hozier, on the Unreal unearth tour. I had an amazing year with a great crew and artist and found that rush of cutting a show again. There is nothing like it! I believe being a technician and operator before becoming a director help me nowadays to make good decisions regarding the teams, the technicalities, the collaborations with artists and colleagues and finally the result of the show. i am now looking for a new camera director role to keep doing what i am passionate about and am looking forward to working with you :)

Julie's Experience

Being a technician and operator for many years before becoming a video director really helped with the decision process when preparing a new tour. I know what it takes for a video team to make it happen and i can make decisions regarding equipments that will fill my needs and theirs for an efficient setup without compromising results. I feel like i am a flexible video director regarding production technicalities on the field and i can adjust to the on site changes. I can also adapt really fast in terms of unexpected issues during a show. Touring the world and different venues many times gave me good experiences in terms of space and camera angles but i also got used to adapt to a lot different crews. I mostly direct in English but can perform in spanish or french. I believe respecting the artist image and musical identity is important and i really enjoy finding a way to do so. I think camera directing needs to be in accordance with the whole design of the show and i do like to integrate graphics into cameras or cameras into graphics. The VJing experiences i had made me realize how interesting it is to mix colors and shapes in addition to the camera shots. Directing cameras is magnifying the artist but also create an experience between them and the audience that can really change the atmosphere of a show.
