About Julie Pirro

Julie Pirro has been playing music ever since she laid her hands on her first guitar at age 8. She grew up in New Jersey and is currently pursuing a Music Technology degree at NYU, with a minor in Computer Science. Songwriting has been an integral part of Julie’s life since 2015. Most of her work is written on guitar, although she does not shy away from using other instruments. In 2017, Julie began recording her own music using Ableton. In recording and producing, she found joy in sound manipulation, particularly in found sounds and field recordings. Julie can often be found turning on her Zoom H1n field recorder on her walks home in the city. Her artistic goal is to incorporate sounds that are not usually heard in mainstream music, as they can add a layer of texture and symbolism that goes beyond instruments. Despite using these sound bites, Julie’s music retains an acoustic quality to them. Her style can be described as a mixture of the pop, folk and indie. Her musical influences include Sara Bareilles, Maggie Rogers, FINNEAS, and Brandi Carlile.
