About Kallie Marie

Kallie Marie’s start in audio and music was anything but usual. She actually started out as a ballet dancer and visual artist. As a kid who couldn’t afford her dance lessons she traded time at the dance studio cutting music and creating fades from a record player to tape for the studio owner in exchange for her dance lessons. At 14 she could no longer afford to take dance lessons, but was enrolled in a performing arts high school. She there took up the guitar figuring that music was as close to dance as she could get. She spent all of high school fascinated by rock & roll, and other forms of music, drawing huge inspiration from bands like L7, Nirvana, Bjork, and Danny Elfman. After high school a friend encouraged her to take some recording classes at the local community college. There she found that she was not only good at this melding of technology and art, but that she couldn’t get enough of it. She moved to England and earned her Masters in Music Production/ Composition from the Leeds College of Music. After that she ended up in NYC, and since then has devoted all her time to working as a producer and composer. Kallie has worked with various artists such as Jeff Derringer, Charley Hustle, Natalie Mishell, (e)motion Picture, Ashley Hicklin, ROYST, Indirah, and January Jane. She also devotes time to producing her own band Explosives For Her Majesty. In addition to music production she also is a freelance composer for film, TV, and Dance and has an interest in creating music and sound design for games. She has had her music placed in documentaries, and dance concerts alike. Additionally Kallie is an adjunct faculty NYU SCPS where she teaches Intro to Audio and Podcasting. Kallie is also a contributing freelance writer for Sonic Scoop. She is passionate about music, technology, electronics, art, and video games! You may find her still taking ballet class or consuming as much tea as possible.

Kallie's Experience

Working as both producer in the classic sense, teaming up with artists to enable the best performance during recording, but also a dedicated pre-production process helping artists make sure their arrangements and vision are prepared for the studio. While in the studio with an artist I work closely with them to achieve their sonic vision; everything from choosing the right studio for the project, down to choosing and placing mics for the session, designing sounds for any midi the artist has, and shaping the sound through coaxing the best performances out of everyone involved. I believe in a hand held process for an artist, should they require it, making sure that the project is completed successfully, by placing them with the right mix/mastering engineer for their budget and vision. In addition to my work as producer working with artists I also work as a media composer for Film, TV, video games, and dance. IF it needs music, I want to write for it! My catalogue spans several genres and my home studio is equipped with a variety of real and software based instruments, along with an assortment of microphones. Lastly, I am an educator and author, equally interested in engaging the public in conversations about what music means to all of us, the global economy, and the importance of music and tech education for the youth of today. I write for Sonic Scoop, guest lecture where ever I am invited, and am an addict faculty at NYU. If you have an idea or a project I am eager to hear from you, and learn about your vision. Lets make some noise!
