Over the past year and a half, I have had the great opportunity to work as Assistant Editor + Social Media Manager at thissongissick.com, an electronic music curation blog that has served as a primary tastemaker in the electronic scene for over twelve years. As Assistant Editor, I communicate with labels and artists daily to promote the newest, most exciting music. My primary responsibility in this role is talent curation, leading directly into publication – finding music from emerging artists for the site to cover, evaluating submissions from labels and publicists, and at the end of the day, writing about it! Additionally, I am a marketing student and female music producer (under the alias Molly Otto). Within the music business, it is difficult to not only be an artist, but also be your own manager, marketer, and promoter. I have had the chance to do all these things, gaining myself recognition by some of the top songwriters and producers in LA (including Jkash, Ian Kirkpatrick, deadmau5, and The Wrecks), and earning myself releases on prominent labels I would have never dreamt of (mau5trap/bitbird). This was not easy to do, but I learned many valuable lessons, and it displayed my willingness to work hard under the toughest circumstances, all the while navigating the music industry as a minority.
