About Nicolette Blount

Nicolette Blount is a Chickasaw songwriter, playwright, performer, director, and producer dedicated to amplifying Native voices in musical theatre. A Southern California native now living on the East Coast, she grew up immersed in Native culture, influenced by her mother’s work at Sherman Indian School. As the composer, lyricist, and co-writer of Savage – The Unconquerable Wanda Savage, Nicolette brings her Chickasaw heritage to the stage, incorporating the endangered Chickasaw language and themes of resilience. Inspired by her great-grandmother, a 1920s Chickasaw Vaudeville performer, Savage has received critical acclaim, including recognition as a 2024 and 2025 Eugene O’Neill National Musical Theatre Conference semifinalist and an Honorable Mention for the 2022 Relentless Award. Her music has been streamed over 68,000 times, with proceeds supporting the Oklahoma Native Alliance Against Violence and the MMIW movement. She is also working on a creative nonfiction book about Wanda Savage, represented by Park & Fine Literary Agency. A passionate advocate for Native representation in theatre, she founded NativeTheatreArtists.com to connect Indigenous creatives with the Broadway industry. She has organized and spoken at multiple Native-focused events, including a Native Creative Town Hall in New York City, which she co-hosted through Theatre Resources Unlimited to highlight Native artists in the industry. She has also been a featured speaker at various Native Town Halls and a Native Playwright Talkback at the Longmont Museum in Colorado. As a director, Nicolette has led productions that spotlight Indigenous narratives and underrepresented voices. She has also performed in numerous productions, including Annie (Miss Hannigan), Beauty and the Beast (Madame de la Grande Bouche), Mary Poppins (Miss Andrews), Rent (Maureen), and more. She and her music has graced prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall, 54 Below, Joe’s Pub, and Broadway Sessions. As a producer, she has supported Off-Broadway productions, A Commercial Jingle for Regina Comet, Millenials are Killing Musicals and Distant Thunder. She supports and promotes new voices in musical theatre, co-producing In Pieces (Joey Contreras) and serving as an associate producer on Winner (Nico Juber and Joe Barros). Her work has been featured in Playbill, Broadway World, Native Max Magazine, and more. Nicolette continues to contribute to the arts as a script reader for Theatre Resources Unlimited and Fresh Ink Theatre. She holds memberships in the Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, Beyond Music, Songwriters Guild of America, Maestra, TRU, and the Society of Composers and Lyricists. Through her storytelling, directing, and performing, Nicolette challenges stereotypes, uplifts Indigenous artists, and brings authentic Native narratives to the stage while championing new and underrepresented voices.
