NaTasha' Experience
My skills developed through a combination of natural curiosity, hands-on experience, formal music education, mentorship, independent study, and more than 27 years of professional musicianship. I’ve always been fascinated by how music is created, from the first melody or harmony we hear to the final recording that reaches an audience.
My musical foundation began with singing, piano, and improvisation at an early age. As I expanded into violin, trumpet, keyboards, synthesizers, acoustic guitar, harp, and talk box, I developed a deeper understanding of harmony, rhythm, arranging, composition, and musical expression. Much of my musicianship developed intuitively through listening, experimenting, memorizing, and creating music by ear.
My interest in audio engineering and music production began when I started experimenting with recording sounds, layering musical ideas, and creating arrangements using cassette tapes. Over time, I taught myself recording techniques, digital audio workstations, editing, mixing, sound design, and the creative and technical aspects of producing professional recordings. That curiosity eventually evolved into my work as a songwriter, composer, arranger, recording artist, and independent music producer.
My experience as a lead and background vocalist, pianist, keyboardist, music director, and band director developed through live performances, rehearsals, church music, education, recording sessions, and international entertainment residencies in Japan and China. Performing professionally required me to develop extensive musical memory, adaptability, leadership, and the ability to communicate with musicians from different cultural and musical backgrounds.
I’ve also had opportunities to work with and learn from talented artists and musicians, including Musiq Soulchild, Ohene Savant, Ruff Endz, Cherish “Love” Robinson, Porsche Smith-Angel, Justin “GuitarSlayer” Lyons, Madukwu Chinwah, and Lawyer Turner. These creative experiences have strengthened my abilities in songwriting, vocal production, arranging, collaboration, and artist development.
One meaningful example is “Elevate,” a single I composed, recorded, and released with my band, Divine Alignment, featuring Musiq Soulchild and Ohene Savant. I conceived and improvised the harp part during my very first pedal harp lesson, then spent seven days listening to, memorizing, and preparing my original improvisation before recording it on the track. That experience demonstrated how ear-based learning, improvisation, musical memory, and creative discipline can produce professional results without relying exclusively on written notation.
As #THETALKBOXQUEEN, “The 1st Queen of the Talk Box!” ™ 💯, I’ve also developed my own artistic identity by combining the expressive qualities of the human voice with synthesizers, funk, jazz, R&B, and improvisation.
My work as a music educator, conductor, bandleader, and musical director has strengthened my ability to teach, coach, rehearse, arrange, and lead musicians of different ages and experience levels. I enjoy helping artists discover their individual sound while bringing everyone together to create a cohesive musical experience.
Today, through NMR Productions, I bring these skills together as an independent recording artist, producer, audio engineer, songwriter, composer, arranger, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, educator, and creative entrepreneur.
What connects all of these experiences is improvisation. It’s more than a musical technique to me. It’s a way of listening, communicating, solving problems, collaborating, and creating possibilities in real time. My career is a reflection of what can happen when curiosity, imagination, discipline, and opportunity come together.
