About Olivia Frasson

I am a graduate from Goldsmiths, the University of London, where I completed my Master in Music (Ethnomusicology). During my post-graduate studies my academic work included research on Black Identity in Popular Music focusing on Kendrick Lamar and Migos, Cultural Appropriation through the study of Drake's utilization of Jamaican Dancehall and UK Grime, and finally, my dissertation titled: "Constructing Female Empowerment in Dancehall: Re-Appropriation and Re-Contextualization of Musical Personas," where I analyzed the musical works of Lady Saw, Shenseea, and Koffee. I also hold a Baccalaureate of Arts Honors with a major in Music and a minor in English. During both my studies, I have accomplished multiple written works, from academic research-based to creative writing pieces. Apart from written work, I have gained knowledge and experience in media and music topics such as journalism, critique, marketing, social media trends, mass culture, and methodological approaches. I hope to gain experience within the music industry and grow my career as a Musical Strategist/Marketer, assisting artists to market and grow their brands towards a broader audience.

Olivia's Experience

I hold professional experience within the industry through internship work with a government funded organization called The Remix Project. At the Remix Project I worked as an Office/Recording Arts Intern in 2012 and continued to volunteer my services until 2014. During this time, I developed my skills in marketing and analytics, assisting with social media marketing for recording arts students and alumni (rappers, singers, instrumental musicians, producers, etc.), events such as Drake’s annual OVO Summit which focuses on the growth of young Toronto creatives, and finally data entry functions work-based documentation and statistic.
