About Waldine Portelus

My name is Waldine Portelus, and I've been trying to build a career in music since I was a little girl. At 32, I've reached a point where I value honesty more than appearing accomplished. For a long time, I wanted to believe I could do everything. Some of that came from ambition, some from necessity, and some from not yet understanding the difference between being exposed to a craft and truly mastering it. Over the years, feedback, experience, and failure taught me to be more truthful with myself. One of the reasons for creating this page is to correct misinformation that exists about me online. Various websites list me as a recording engineer, mix engineer, mastering engineer, live sound engineer, front-of-house (FOH) engineer, monitor engineer, lighting director, music video director, photographer, videographer, producer, programmer, designer, DJ, and many other titles. Those descriptions are not accurate. While I've had the opportunity to be around many parts of the music industry and have learned from different roles over the years, I don't believe it's honest to claim titles that I haven't truly earned or practiced at a professional level. Moving forward, I only identify with the work I know is authentically mine. I am a singer. I am a songwriter. Those are the two creative paths I am choosing to dedicate myself to, grow in, and be known for. Everything else has been part of my journey, but it is not my identity or my profession. This page exists to represent who I really am—not who the internet says I am, not who I once hoped to be, and not who I felt pressured to present myself as. I believe being truthful about where I am today is a stronger foundation than pretending to be something I'm not.
