I'm Yasmina, a third-year college student at New York University, interested in exploring the music industry through the lens of strategy and operations, where supporting up-and-coming artists is what I want to explore. In college, I've explored multiple organizations across industries, that all supported me when I started my first internship in the music space. I interned at a music studio, mostly supporting administrative needs. Once I got a taste of independent artist outreach and bringing studio resources to them, I knew that this is exactly what I wanted to continue doing.

Yasmina's Experience

“Indies Only” is an initiative created by Invite Only Studios where they support local independent artists in New York City. At Invite Only Studios, I worked to advance this initiative by revving up artist outreach. I scouted local independent artists, sending personalized invitations, and making studio resources accessible through specialized rates, production/mixing services, and networking events. I managed a database of 3,400+ artists on Excel and keeping track of artists that we have not reached out to yet. By researching music trends and live events, I supported the manager in improving targeted outreach for both independent and major artists. As an admin intern, I monitored financial spreadsheet by tracking expenses, receivables, and label invoices to maintain accurate records. This looks like making sure that labels are receiving invoices while also sending reminders for unpaid services. This also looks like tracking inventory items that need to be prioritized to make sure our guests have the resources they need to feel comfortable at our studio.
