About Angelica Whitney

Animals and music seem to have nothing in common. Yet, they are both fields I'm passionate about. I'm setting out to live life at the intersection of veterinary medicine and the music industry. From my enthusiasm for wildlife to my love of live music, my passions lead me to find ways to connect these two fields in every opportunity I have. This overlap in the veterinary and music industries centers around my education. I am pursuing a degree in Animal Science on a Pre-Veterinary track at the University of Connecticut, with minors in Business Fundamentals and Music. As a part of the Honors Program, I challenge myself in areas such as public speaking and innovation to pursue my passions outside of the classroom. My experiences as a fan shape who I am as a music industry professional. As a concert photographer for numerous publications, I capture the energy of live music and artist-fan interactions. I spread these experiences along with artist interviews and other content to fans as a music journalist. My graphic design work in Adobe began with robotics, but I progressed this creative outlet into my pop culture merch business, Delicate Daisy Designs, and freelance work. As the Vice Chair of Public Relations on SUBOG's Concert Committee, I craft promotional materials and publicity campaigns for UConn music events. Some work directly links animal science and music. I am a research assistant with the Music Dynamics Lab focusing on projects related to animals, music, enrichment, and behavior. As the Marketing Chair of the Students for One Health organization, I advocate for the better health of humans, animals, and the environment through digital designs. I am a photographer and content creator at the UConn Department of Animal Science, developing my skills in camera operation and social media usage. Feel free to reach out to me! I always love seeing how people pursue their unique passions throughout life.

Angelica's Experience

I am an experienced writer for three publications, allowing me to showcase artists, tours, and music in general. Additionally, I am a concert photographer, which has allowed me to combine my interests in photography and writing. As a contributing writer and upcoming Media Chair for Her Campus at UConn, I write at least four articles per semester related to local events in entertainment. This includes tour reviews (which include photos that I took) and press conference interviews with rising artists. At That Fangirl Life, I write about pop culture news, tours that I review, and how fans can support artists. Additionally, I contribute written pieces and graphics for social media to Street GRRRLS. I currently collaborate with °1824 and Universal Music Group to promote artists from their music company and related labels. I work with many people within the music industry and community by hosting events, and projects, and designing content and graphics as part of Delicate Daisy Designs (which was originally a pop culture merchandise shop). While studying animal science, I have been able to effectively communicate with clients at veterinary clinics as a receptionist as well as with the University of Connecticut community through my photography and content creation work at the Department of Animal Science. I am looking forward to using my communication skills from these experiences at a future job or internship to help connect communities with music. Managing projects and events requires dedication, organization, and creativity, and I have been able to effectively utilize those skills to create activities that connect music fans to artists. As the organizer of Gracie Takes On New England, I lead fan engagement projects for fans to hold up colored hearts and lights during specific songs at Gracie Abrams’ New England concert (currently planning for Boston, MA, and previously ran projects for Portland, ME). These projects are made with the hope that they can make the show even more memorable for Abrams and the fans. Running these projects requires extensive behind-the-scenes work on social media campaigns, graphic designs for templates, and working with other fans wanting to assist. I am also the Vice Chair of Public Relations for SUBOG’s Concert Committee at the University of Connecticut. This role has allowed me to plan events, including revamping our Coffee House open mic night. From designing social media posts to creating publicity campaigns, I have been able to run multiple successful events. I helped reimagine our UCONNIC Music Festival and how we marketed the event around campus, increasing ticket sales drastically and building a stronger connection with students. In a future internship or job, I would come up with innovative new ideas to support the team and be able to carry out those projects thoroughly.
