About Mitchelle Mubbeah
Hello, I’m Mubbeah, professionally known as Shawry for Sound. I’m a Kenyan audio engineer, music producer, music technology graduate and creative practitioner who believes sound has the power to move people, tell stories and create unforgettable moments.
I work independently across live sound, festival and concert production, recording, audio editing, technical support and production planning. My work includes FOH engineering, mixer operation, soundchecks and show operation, stage patching and signal flow, live multitrack recording, audio editing and post-production, as well as audio and technical consultation for events and productions.
I’m comfortable working across different digital mixing platforms and adapting to different production environments, artists and technical teams. Beyond mixing, I support the wider technical process, from understanding and preparing technical requirements, building and managing signal flow and coordinating equipment, to troubleshooting during production and ensuring a show is properly executed from setup through to pack down. I can also support the planning and coordination of gigs, including stage and backline requirements, scheduling, artist support and production logistics.
I have worked across more than 20 festivals and productions and with over 60 artists, including MC Yallah, Sauti Sol, Vigro Deep, Dlala Thukzin and DJ Lag. My experience includes recurring events such as Kilele Summit, which I have been brought back to each year since 2024, as well as Beneath the Baobabs, Gondwana, and other concert and festival productions. I am also credited as the FOH engineer for Eunice Njeri’s Huru album recording.
I see repeat bookings as one of the strongest indicators of the value of my work. Being called back for productions year after year tells me that people trust not only the work I deliver but also how I contribute to a team. I aim to show up prepared, work precisely, communicate clearly and contribute positively to the production.
What sets me apart is that I care about both the technical result and the people behind it. I pay close attention to detail, but I also understand that live production is collaborative. I value clear communication, strong working relationships and making it easier for artists, technicians and production teams to do their jobs.
Live production can be demanding, and I approach it by staying focused on what is most important at any given moment. When technical issues, unexpected changes or conflicts arise, I prioritise what needs immediate attention, communicate with the relevant team members and work collaboratively towards a practical solution. I believe good technical work is not only about identifying a problem, but also knowing how to respond without losing sight of the wider production.
My practice has also been shaped by my involvement with Umojah Sound System, where I continue to develop my skills through hands-on work alongside experienced sound practitioners. From building and testing speaker components to pairing systems, tuning, working with amplifiers and outboard effects, and developing critical listening skills, the experience has strengthened my understanding of analogue sound and system building. It has also deepened my appreciation for vinyl, music selection, sound-system culture and the patience and craftsmanship behind a well-built rig.
Alongside engineering, I explore electronic music production, sound experimentation, live performance and sound for moving image. I’m particularly interested in the relationship between technical knowledge and creative work, and in the ways sound can contribute to live events, music, film and storytelling.
As a woman working in technical audio, I also want my work to demonstrate that technical expertise, precision and leadership are not defined by gender. I hope my journey encourages more women and young creatives to step confidently into technical and creative industries and recognise that their ideas, skills and voices belong there.
At my core, I’m someone who loves learning, creating and figuring out how to make things work. I care about doing the job well, understanding the details and leaving every project better than I found it. I’m open to freelance, contract and collaborative opportunities across audio engineering, technical production, artist support, event production, music and sound for moving image.
If we can make people feel something, spark an idea or create a moment they remember, then we’ve done something special.

Mitchelle's Experience
I have applied my technical and creative skills through hands-on work across live productions, festivals, conferences, music events, and recording projects. My experience includes FOH engineering, digital console operation, soundchecks, microphone placement, stage patching, signal flow, system preparation, backline coordination, live multitrack recording, audio editing, troubleshooting, and show operation.
At festivals such as SolFest and Beneath the Baobabs, I have supported the delivery of live performances from setup through show operation, working across stage preparation, patching, microphone and backline requirements, soundchecks, console operation, and troubleshooting. These environments have strengthened my ability to assess technical issues quickly, prioritize what needs immediate attention, and work collaboratively with the wider production team.
I have also applied these skills in conferences and corporate productions, including the Kilele Summit and Global Data Festival, where audio requirements involve a different level of precision. I have worked with panel discussions, keynote sessions, presentations, microphones, playback, and live production workflows, coordinating with presenters and other technical teams to ensure sessions run smoothly. I have been trusted to return to recurring productions, including Kilele Summit from 2024 to 2026, which has allowed me to build on my experience while developing strong professional relationships.
My work also extends to artists, recording, and sound system culture, where I have contributed to live performances, recording sessions, live album projects, and technical productions. Working in these spaces has strengthened my understanding that technical decisions should support the artist and the overall experience rather than simply focus on operating equipment.
Across these projects, I have developed not only as a sound engineer but also as a collaborator, problem solver, and creative professional. I bring technical knowledge together with preparation, attention to detail, communication, and an understanding of how sound contributes to the wider production. My CV includes links to my portfolio, where I have documented selected projects and further examples of how I have applied these skills in practice.
